SEA AND OCEAN PROTECTION
What is the real threat to the seas?
Until recently, you could think that the biggest threat to the seas is plastic. It was about this threat that we could most often hear in the media and read in the press. And photos of tangled dead animals only fueled this impression. However, this is not the biggest problem at all.
Seas and oceans occupy up to 70% of the Earth's surface. This is the largest area of our planet, among other things, that is why it is so important to care for it. It is a huge ecosystem that affects our lives every day. But it must be remembered that through our actions - the whole area can turn into an arid desert.
Intensive sea traffic
One of the many threats is maritime traffic, as well as excessive, uncontrolled exploitation of fisheries. This results in the fact that the populations of species caught fall below a safe level that allows them to be restored. The seas and oceans, along with rich flora and fauna, are threatened by this. The Baltic Sea is a particularly vulnerable area. Its biodiversity is decreasing before our eyes. Gray seals, porpoises and other species require protection. The Baltic Sea is one of the most crowded seas and that is why integrated international action is needed to change this situation.
Climate change and consequences for the seas and oceans
Last year, the Council of the European Union adopted ecologists’ conclusions on the oceans and seas, stressing that climate change is a direct threat to life in seas and oceans around the world. For those dealing with ecology on a daily basis, this is nothing new, but fortunately the Council has begun a call for increased political action at all levels of government to protect marine and coastal ecosystems. It should be noted that European regional seas are warming at above-average speeds.
Global warming didn’t start yesterday, is there still something we can do? Absolutely! It is worth supporting initiatives encouraging:
- use of marine resources in a sustainable manner
- running a sustainable blue economy
- increasing coordination in the field of enhancing maritime security
- reducing the amount of marine waste
- ensuring oceans’ health and resilience
- protect the biodiversity of vulnerable marine and coastal ecosystems
- invest in ocean research and ocean science
We will help the seas and oceans by giving up indifference. Let’s reduce the use of plastic to a minimum, do not litter water and from a young age teach our children how important activities for the planet are. Earth is home to all of us, which is why we should respect it.
Save Our Environment
The way we are
The way we treat animals defines us not animals, it shows what kind of people we are when we deal with innocent ones.
Education is the biggest hope for our planet and future generations.
Education brings understanding, changes your perception of the world and can make that the future will look brighter for our planet. Because the people who will make important decisions will have the highest level of knowledge and empathy, which many people don’t possess these days. That’s when the existence of organizations like ours will not be necessary. That’s why investing many in educational campaigns is the best solution possible.
Volunteering is a huge force!
Volunteers from all over the world, who are fighting for the right cause are the main reason why we achieve our goals, and we were able to save thousands of animals.
