The forests on Earth are getting younger

Ecologists warn. Our Earth’s tree stand is getting younger. Old trees are cut down and new forests are created in their place. However, they do not bring the same benefits. After cutting down the old forest, the amount of carbon dioxide it absorbs significantly decreases.

It is a huge threat to biodiversity. New research has shown that the average size of the tree has decreased significantly over the last century. This affects many factors, and above all, the dynamics of forests and global warming. Researchers show that continuous deforestation and heat, droughts, fires, and diseases will reduce the tree stand on Earth even more. It is said that every minute from the Earth’s surface of up to40 football fields disappear. Damages can be prevented by new plantings, but young forests definitely do not bring as much benefit as old ones.
